I guess you could say “It WAS a Sign” when the giant World Sports Betting sign at our Durban branch which normally lights up the corner of Dr. Yussuf Daddoo and Dr Pixley KaSeme street in the CBD recently sustained damage. The Sign, which came down around 5pm on Saturday, 16 September 2017, when the excessive winds hit the CBD, caused little damage but allot of ruckus on its way down. Emergency Services were on hand to remove the debris and clean up the streets with the assistance of World Sports Betting Staff.
“We were just happy to hear there had been no serious injuries,” said Ryno Du Plessis, Marketing Manager of World Sports Betting. “In the aftermath however we realised that while we had sustained some damage, the lesser prepared and less fortunate residents of Durban may be finding it harder to recover from damages or losses sustained. Our Regional Manager made contact with a shelter in the CBD called The Nest and it was instantly apparent that although the shelter itself had not sustained damage directly from the storm, it was still in Dire need of help, to support the homeless and less fortunate that streamed in looking for shelter.”
World Sports Betting’s Durban team sprung to action and delivered a bakkie load full of food and supplies to the management team of the shelter which, for just R38 per night offers shelter inclusive of 2 meals to the lesser fortunate residents of Durban.
Logan Pillay, Regional Manager for World Sports Betting called the experience “Eye Opening”. “We were amazed by the wonderful work the shelter does for the little they receive and we were extremely happy to be able to assist in a small way… We challenge other businesses in the area to also get involved in their own way; it is easy to forget how close to home poverty resides sometimes…”
