Super Rugby Unlocked, Week 2 Betting Preview

October 15, 2020

We suggest a bet in each of the 3 Super Rugby Unlocked games taking place this weekend.

Let’s start with a look at the outright betting where we have the DHL Stormers 16/10 for the win ahead of the Cell C Sharks 5/2, the Vodacom Bulls 33/10 and the Toyota Cheetahs are 9/1 with Emirates Lions 10/1 and you can get 80/1 and better the balance.

The Cheetahs opened their campaign in fine style with a 53-31 win over the Pumas last week and that score line flatters the Pumas as the Cheetahs wrapped up over 40 points before half-time, before stepping off the gas.

They face a Bulls side that started 22 point favourites at home to Griquas, but had to come from behind to win 30-23 and based on the money that came onto the Bulls handicap it was certainly a great result for the bookmakers.

Cheetahs 5/6

Draw 25/1

Bulls 11/10

Handicap:  Cheetahs (-1.5) at 9/10, Bulls (+1.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet:  Bulls win at 11/10

The Bulls have picked what I consider to be a better side this week and although they will run into a seriously motivated Cheetah side I think the Bulls pack can gain ascendency and set the foundation for a win.

These are the two rank outsiders for the competition, although the Griquas could have taken some heart from their 7 point defeat away to the Bulls.  The Pumas though were flattered somewhat by the score line against the Cheetahs as they scored 28 points most of them towards the back-end of the match.

This may be a game to wait for the Total Points Lines as there should be tries from both sides, but for now I am happy to side with the Griquas to beat the handicap.

Griquas 1/4

Draw 30/1

Pumas 3/1

Handicap:  Griquas (-10.5) at 9/10, Pumas (+10.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Griquas (-10.5) at 9/10

I was impressed by Griquas last week, less so by the Pumas and think that in Kimberley, Griquas can win this comfortably.

The Stormers make their first outing of the competition having had a bye in Week 1.  They were in action against the Lions just a couple of weeks ago in Super Fan Saturday where they won fairly comfortably.

The Lions started 7 point underdogs against the Sharks last week with the home team being heavily backed to beat them.  In the end though the Sharks were hanging on and managed to just win 19-16.

Stormers 2/7

Draw 30/1

Lions 28/10

Handicap: Stormers (-9.5) at 9/10, Lions (+9.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Stormers (-9.5) at 9/10

The Stormers scrum looks formidable and while a game Lions side will no doubt stay in touch I think the home team can pull clear to win by a double figure margin.
