The Netherlands and Pakistan meet in a Group 2 T20 Cricket World Cup Super 12 match in Perth on Sunday and we take a look at the game from a betting angle.

The Netherlands and Pakistan have both to register a point having played two matches in this group.

NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands were competitive in their opening match against Bangladesh where poor starts to their run chasing meant they never reached the 145 Bangladesh had set them for victory and they ended up losing by 9 runs.

After that it was on to play India where they were massive underdogs and although they never looked like winning the game, they certainly weren’t hammered restricting India to 179 for 2 in their 20 overs with India having won the toss and deciding to bat.  Paul van Meekeren with 1 for 32 off 4 overs and Fred Klaassen 1 for 33 off his 4 overs were the pick of the bowlers.

The Netherlands were always in trouble in the run chase and eventually ended up with a 123 for 9 after their 20 overs to lose by 56 runs.  Tim Pringle was top score with 20 runs from 15 balls.

PAKISTAN

How quickly fortunes can turn in this sport, last Sunday Pakistan looked to be heading to victory against India in the opening match having set their great rivals 160 to win, but thanks to a Virat Kohli masterpiece and a poor final over, it was India who got up to win on the last ball.

Pakistan were very short favourites to get their first points on the board when they played Zimbabwe on Thursday and when they restricted the Zimbabweans to 130 for 8 it looked like race over.  Wasim ended with 4 for 24 in his 4 overs and Shadab Khan with 3 for 23 in his allocation and between them they ensured that Zimbabwe were never on the front foot.  The run chase got off to a slow start, but Pakistan generally looked to have the chase in hand right up until the final over.  They fell 1 run short of Zimbabwe’s total though and they can afford no more slips if they are to make the semi-final.  From a batting perspective Shan Masood scored 44 off 38 balls for Pakistan.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides have only met once in the T20 format with Pakistan winning on that occasion.

Netherlands 6/1

Pakistan 1/11

Suggested Bet:   Netherlands Top Batter, Colin Ackermann at 28/10

He was the top batsman in their first match and second top scorer in their 2nd so is showing plenty of consistency and I like what I have seen about him at the crease so far.

Suggested bet:  Total Ducks in the Match, Over 1.5 at 13/10

This is a speculative bet, but it could be good fun to watch and of course I am hoping that Colin Ackermann doesn’t contribute to this total.
