FRANCE v POLAND

FRANCE

France booked their spot in the last 16 in two matches thanks to a 4-1 win over Australia and a 2-1 win over Denmark.  They gave a number of their fringe players a run in the final match and it back-fired slightly as they lost 1-0 to Tunisia, but actually had no impact on their position on the log and they finished top of the group.

POLAND

Poland got off to a slow start with a goalless draw against Mexico and they then beat the dangerous Saudi Arabians 2-0 before the big clash against Argentina where they lost 2-0, but were fortunate that Saudi Arabia went down to Mexico.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides last met in a friendly International in 2011 with France winning 1-0 and their last competitive meeting was in Euro 1996 where they met twice and both games were drawn.

France 2/7

Draw 9/2

Poland 11/1

Suggested Bet:  Under 2.5 goals at 19/20

France are worthy favourites for this game, but I think that Poland are well capable of frustrating them and while the Polish haven’t looked that sharp in front of goal, the defence has certainly looked solid.  I think there is every chance we get a cagey start to the game and the under 2.5 goals looks a big runner.

ENGLAND v SENEGAL

ENGLAND

England came top of their group with 7 points from a possible 9.  They opened their campaign with a 6-2 thumping of Iran before a somewhat disappointing goalless draw against the USA.  Against Wales they battled to find the net early, but broke through with 3 second-half goals for a comfortable victory.

SENEGAL

Senegal lost their opening game 2-0 to Netherlands, but bounced back strongly with a 3-1 win over Qatar and a 2-1 win over Ecuador to set up this clash with the English.  They did start slight underdogs in the Ecuador game and you could have got 22/10 on them getting the win before kick-off.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

England and Senegal have never met in a competitive football match.

England 11/20

Draw 3/1

Senegal 6/1

Suggested Bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 13/10

I think we may get goals in this one as Senegal are a team that look dangerous going forward, but do tend to concede a bit at the back.  I was very impressed with England against Wales and the way they chased the Welsh, never really letting them in the game, but I don’t think they are going to have the same effect against this physical Senegal side and I am betting on goals, at least 3 of them.
