Heineken Champions Cup Quarter-Finals Betting Preview
April 7, 2023

We take a look at the 4 Heineken Champions Cup Quarter-Finals taking place this weekend and suggest a bet in each game.

Let’s start with a look at the Outright Betting where Leinster are trading as 5/6 favourites ahead of Toulouse at 9/2 and La Rochelle at 5/1.  You can get 10/1 the Saracens and the Stormers and Sharks are both on offer at 17/1 with 25/1 and better the balance.

FRIDAY

Leinster V Leicester – Click here to bet

Leinster beat Ulster 30-15 at home last week, a result that landed very much on the handicap and was enough to see them through to the quarter-finals.  They face Leicester who beat Edinburgh 16-6 at home in another low scoring affair.

Leinster now have the tough task of travelling to Leinster looking for a result and as can be seen by the handicap of Leinster -16.5 bookmakers are not giving them much chance.

Handicap:  Leinster -16.5

There is no doubt that Leinster are the worthy favourites for both the Tournament and this match, but I think this Leicester side have what it takes to stay within the handicap.

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Leicester +16.5 at 10/11

SATURDAY

Toulouse v Sharks – Click here to bet

Toulouse overcame some early Bulls resistance to beat them 33-9 in their Round of 16 clash last week and they once again have the all-important home ground advantage against the South African team.

The Sharks turned in their best performance in recent memory beating Munster 50-35 at home but they will know that travelling to France to take on Toulouse is a very different proposition.

Handicap:  Toulouse -10.5

Toulouse have been priced up at double digit favourites by the bookmakers, but I think the Sharks can push them and a tight, low scoring affair is on the cards and I considered the +10.5 Sharks handicap, but the bet I prefer is under 50.5 points at 17/20

Suggested Bet:  Under 50.5 points at 17/20

Exeter v Stormers – Click here to bet

Exeter qualified by virtue of a 33-33 draw at home to Montpellier last week, but they are a side which has been battling this season to recapture the form of recent years.

The Stormers turned in an impressive display to beat the Harlequins 32-28, a score line that flatters the visitors who scored 21 points in the last 4 minutes, but who were never within striking distance of the Stormers.

Handicap:  Exeter +5.5

Exeter look to be a side at odds with itself at the moment and I think that a well drilled Stormers team can win this game by more than the 5.5 handicap.

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Stormers -5.5 at 19/20

SUNDAY

La Rochelle v Saracens – Click here to bet

La Rochelle were given a much sterner task than the bookmakers expected when they held on for a 3 point victory over Gloucester in the Round of 16 last week.  That would have served as something of a wake-up call for the French side who now welcome Saracens who came from behind to beat the Ospreys 35-20 at home in their Round of 16 clash.

Handicap:  La Rochelle -7.5

It should be a cracking match and I am expecting defence to dominate and I am going for unders once again.

Suggested Bet:  Under 50.5 points at 9/10
