Heineken Champions Cup Semi-Finals Betting Preview
April 27, 2023

We take a look at the two Heineken Champions Cup semi-finals taking place this weekend and suggest a bet in each game.

There is unfortunately no South African interest in the Champions Cup semi-finals, but we should have two cracking matches to watch and bet on.

Let’s start with a look at the latest Outright Betting where Leinster are favourites at 5/10 ahead of La Rochelle at 4/1, Toulouse at 9/2 and Exeter are the rank outsiders at 18/1.

SATURDAY

Leinster v Toulouse – Click here to bet

The Leinster squad will be well rested having sent the youngsters over to do the business in the URC in South Africa.  Things didn’t go well for them there in their final match against the Bulls, but that has absolutely no bearing on this fixture.

Leinster saw off Ulster 30-15 at home in the Round of 16 and then were convincing winners over Leicester in Dublin winning 55-24 in their quarter-final.

Toulouse were too strong for the Bulls in their Round of 16 clash winning 33-9 and they then saw off another South African side, the Sharks, 54-20 at home in the quarter-finals.  Unlike Leinster they have been unable to rest their players who have been involved in top 14 action.

Handicap:  Leinster -8.5

I am expecting a really tight game and I can’t see either team winning this by much.

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Toulouse +8.5 at 9/10

SUNDAY

La Rochelle v Exeter – Click here to bet

La Rochelle were given a big scare in their Round of 16 clash when they only just got past Gloucester 29-26 at home.  They then faced English giants, Saracens in the quarter-finals and they came through a typically physical encounter 24-10 victors to book their spot in the last 4.

Exeter were involved in an absolute thrilling Round of 16 match when they drew 33-33 with Montpellier only to win on try count back.  They then started underdogs at home to the Stormers, but were far too strong on the day winning 42-17.

Handicap:  La Rochelle -12.5

As impressive as Exeter were against the Stormers, I can’t see them living with this physical La Rochelle side and I am going for the French side to draw clear and win comfortably.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, La Rochelle -12.5 at 10/11
