English Premier League Betting Preview, 1 and 2 May
May 1, 2023

There are two English Premier League games taking place on Monday and Tuesday night and we suggest a bet in each of them.

Let’s start with a look at the latest Outright Betting where Manchester City have shortened into 1/14 favourites to defend their title with Arsenal offered at 8/1.

MONDAY

Leicester v Everton – Click here to bet

This is a proper relegation battle and pits 18th place Leicester against 19th place Everton.  Only 1 point separates the sides and victory for either would move them out of the relegation zone.

Leicester broke a run of 9 matches during which time they only took 1 point when they beat Wolves 2-1 in their last home start and then last time out they came out and got a 1-1 draw at Leeds.  They have won 4 and drawn 3 of their 16 home matches this season and Leicester home games have averaged 2.5 goals each with 9 of the 16 matches delivering profits for over 2.5 goal backers.

Everton have only won 1 of their last 10 matches and are without a victory in their last 6 games.  They went down 4-1 at home to Newcastle last time out and their last away game was a goalless draw at Crystal Palace.  They have only won once in 16 attempts on the road this season with 7 draws and 8 defeats. Everton away games have averaged 2.3 goals each with only 6 of 16 matches reaching the 3 goal mark.

Leicester beat Everton 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but Everton won this fixture 2-1 last season.

This should be a tight and potentially low scoring game and it is no surprise that under 2.5 goals is trading as a marginal favourite at 5/6.  I am going to stick to the match result here though and I have seen enough improvement from Leicester to think they can bag the 3 points.

Suggested Bet:  Leicester win at 21/20

TUESDAY

Arsenal v Chelsea – Click here to bet

Arsenal are 2nd on the log and without a win in their last 4 starts.  They have drawn 3 matches in succession heading into their last game against Manchester City when they went down 4-1.  The Gunners are now 1 point behind City who have a game in hand.

Goals have flowed in Arsenal Matches and over 2.5 goal backers would have collected profits in their last 9 matches.  In fact 8 of those 9 matches had 4 goals or more in them and only 1 of their last 8 has seen one of the teams fail to find the back of the net.

Chelsea are 12th on the log and without a win in their last 6 starts.  They are on a 3 match losing streak going down 2-0 at home to Brentford last time out.  By contrast to Arsenal’s high scoring matches, 4 of Chelsea’s last 5 games have delivered profits for under 2.5 goal backers.

Arsenal edged Chelsea 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but last season Chelsea grabbed the points at Arsenal with a 2-0 victory.

I am expecting the trend of goals in Arsenal’s matches to continue and for the more conservative punter there is 8/10 for over 2.5 goals available.  I am hoping for more than that though and I am going to take a bigger price about over 3.5 goals.

Suggested Bet:  Over 3.5 goals at 39/20
