The French Open Men’s Final takes place at Roland Garros on Sunday and Novak Djokovic the 3rd seed is a short price favourite to beat Casper Ruud in the Final.
DJOKOVIC
Djokovic showed all his class in his semi-final against top seed Carlos Alcaraz. The Serbian came out firing to take the 1st set 6-3 and when Alcaraz broke for a 7-5 win in the 2nd set, you got the feeling we were in for a long match. Djokovic though had other ideas, reeling off the 3rd and 4th sets 6-1, 6-1 to book his spot in the Final.
Djokovic had looked fairly comfortable in the lead up to his semi-final match winning his first 4 games in straight sets before been pushed to a 4th set by 11th seed Khachanov in the quarter-finals.
This will be Novak Djokovic’s 7th French Open final and he goes in search of his 3rd Title.
RUUD
Casper Ruud started slight underdog for his semi-final with Alexander Zverev despite been the higher of the two seeds. The betting proved to be way off the mark though as Ruud cruised to victory 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 to set up the Final with Djokovic.
Ruud has dropped 3 sets in total on his way to the final, but he has yet to be pushed to a 5th set. He also faced a tough challenge in his quarter-final against Rune. In that game he also came out firing in his opening 2 sets fairly easily before switching off and dropping the 3rd. He got the job done in 4 sets though.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Djokovic and Ruud have met four times with Djokovic winning on all 4 occasions. Their most recent meeting was in November of 2022 where Djokovic beat Ruud 7-5, 6-3 in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The pair have never met in a grand slam, but should Ruud win a set against Djokovic it will be the first one he has taken.
