Thursday promises to bring more thrills in the high mountains in Stage 6 of Tour de France with two category 1 and one HC climb on the route to Cauterets-Cambasque
STAGE 5 WRAP UP
Jai Hindley and team mate Emanuel Buchmann got into a strong breakaway which stayed away with Hindley taking the stage honours and the yellow jersey. Giulio Ciccone was runner up and Felix Gall gave us a big run for our money in third. Of the two leading GC favourites Vingegaard put serious time into Pogacar in a major shake up to the overall standings and ultimately the outright betting.
JERSEY UPDATE
Hindley took the Yellow Jersey and he is 47 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, Ciccone is at +1:03 in third, followed by Emanuel Buchmann (+1mins 11secs) in fourth. Then we have, 5th. Adam Yates +1mins 34secs, 6th Tadej Pogacar +1mins 40secs and 7th. Simon Yates +1mins 40secs
Jasper Philipsen stays in green with 150 points with Bryan Coquard now second on 84. In the King of the Mountains competition Felix Gall now leads with 28 points, Ciccone has 19 and Hindley and Powless have 18.
Jonas Vingegaard is now 4/11 to win the GC with Tadej Pogacar at 4/1. Hindley is 6/1 and it’s 33/1 and better the rest.

THE ROUTE
The stage is just shy of 145km in length with a Cat 3 climb first on the menu which should help a breakaway to get established.
The Cat 1 Col d’Aspin (12km at 6.5%) is followed the HC Col de Tourmalet, 17.1 km of climbing at an average gradient of 7.3 %.
After a lengthy descent the riders head upwards again to a summit finish on top of the Cat 1 Cauterets-Cambasque, lengthy at 16km but with a less tasking gradient of 5.4%.
VERDICT
If it comes down to a GC battle for stage honours then Vingegaard, who’s team will be keen to capitalize on Pogacar’s struggles on Stage 5, is hard to argue with.
However, with significant gaps in the GC now we may see some very capable stage hunting climbers who are way back in the overall standings get into the break and perhaps Ruben Guerreiro will be worth a roll of the dice.
