RUGBY WORLD CUP BLOGS

We take a look at the 2 Rugby World Cup matches taking place on Wednesday and Thursday this week and suggest a bet in each game.

South Africa remain favourites to win the World Cup at 3/1 despite their loss to Ireland on the weekend.  The Irish have shortened into 33/10 second favourites and you can get 7/2 about hosts France and New Zealand with England 12/1 and 22/1 and better the balance.

URUGUAY v NAMIBIA – Click here to bet

This is a Group A clash and will bring to and end Namibia’s participation in the Tournament.  Uruguay have one game remaining against New Zealand so both sides will be targeting this as a possible win something neither has been able to achieve so far.

Uruguay opened their campaign with a 15 point defeat to France, a game where they started 50 point underdogs.  They then found Italy too good for them losing 38-17 which was also enough to see them beat the handicap of 24.5 points.

Namibia were beaten 52-8 by Italy in their opening game and they were then hammered 71-3 by New Zealand.  They rotated their team against France last week and got absolutely crushed 96-0.

These sides have met four times in the last 6 years with Namibia winning once and Uruguay three times.  They met in a friendly in early August with Uruguay winning 26-18.

Handicap:  Uruguay -17.5

This was always likely to be the most realistic opportunity for a victory for both sides in this pool but its Uruguay that have shown by far the better form and we take them to cover the handicap.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Uruguay -17.5 points at 19/20

JAPAN v SAMOA – Click here to bet

This is a Pool B match and both of these sides are very much in contention for the runner-up spot behind England.

Japan opened their campaign with a 30 point win over Chile before putting up a brave fight against England with their opponents pulling away in the end to win 34-12.

Samoa’s first game was also against Chile where they won 43-10 and they were then well backed on the handicap at +14.5 against Argentina and while they duly delivered for punters they lost the game by 9 points.

Japan and Samoa met in July this year in the Pacific Nations up with Samoa winning 24-22 in Japan and in 5 meetings between the sides Japan have won three times and Samoa twice.

Handicap:  Japan +4.5

This is near enough to an eliminator and it could get close. Japan gave England a test for much of the game before they ran out of steam after a fortunate England try. They might just be good enough to win this.

Suggested Bet: Japan to win at 18/10
