India begin their 2023 Cricket World Cup campaign against Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday and we take a look at the betting odds for this first game.
INDIA
Leading up to the World Cup, India participated in the Asia Cup and a three-game series against Australia. They were highly successful in the Asia Cup, losing only one of the six games they played and securing a victory against Sri Lanka in the final to win the tournament. India continued to exhibit strong form in their series against Australia, defeating them 2-1 after securing wins in the first two games of the series by 5 wickets and 99 runs before Australia bounced back with a 56 run win in the 3rd ODI.
Rohit Sharma captains the team that is packed with talent including Bumrah and Kohli who are well up in the betting for Top Bat and Top Bowler in the tournament.
Squad
Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav.
AUSTRALIA
Australia faced South Africa in a five-game series as part of their preparations for the World Cup. They started confidently, winning the first two games. They were unable to maintain the momentum and lost the next three games, resulting in the series ending 3-2 in favour of the Proteas. They were also unsuccessful in India (as outlined above), winning only one of their three games.
Pat Cummins leads the team and players I expect to go well include Mitch March and Adam Zampa.
Squad
Pat Cummins (c), Steve Smith, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitch Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc
HEAD-TO-HEAD
These two teams faced each other in two three-game series this year, both played in India. In the first series, which took place in March, Australia won 2-1 after securing victories in the final two games. In the second and most recent series, the outcome was the opposite, with India winning 2-1 after winning the first two games.

India 8/13
Australia 5/4
Suggested Bet: India to win at 8/13
With their recent form and the advantage of playing at home, India should be well-positioned to start their campaign with a win over Australia. The odds may be a bit short and if you don’t fancy a straight win bet perhaps include in multiples.
Suggested Bet: Australia to be under 28.5 runs at first dismissal at 17/20
In the first two games of the most recent series, India struck with an early wicket and I am betting that they succeed in doing the same in this World Cup opener.
