NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand played their first match against England in Ahmedabad on Thursday and they won the toss and chose to field first.

They managed to put England under pressure early taking wickets at regular intervals In the end, they restricted the defending champions to 282 for 9 off their 50 overs and Matt Henry was the top New Zealand bowler with 3 for 48 off his 10 overs and he was ably supported by the rest of the bowling line-up with Mitchell Santner also worth a mention with his 2 for 37 off 10 overs.

New Zealand lost Will Young early for a first-ball duck, but amazingly Conway and Ravindra put on 273 runs unbeaten for the 2nd wicket.  Conway topped scored for New Zealand with a 152 at a strike rate of 125 and Ravindra scored 123 off just 96 balls with five 6’s.

NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands faced Pakistan in their opening game in Hyderabad and they won the toss and elected to field first.  They had Pakistan in some trouble early at 38 for 3 in the 10th over, but in the end Pakistan reached 286 all out off 49 overs.  Bas de Leede got 4 for 62 in his 9 overs and there were generally good contributions from the bowlers with Colin Ackermann also impressive with his 2 for 39 off 8 overs.

The Netherlands were also behind the run rate and lost wickets fairly regularly and it was Bas de Leede who ended up top scoring in the number 4 position with 67 at just under a run a ball.  There was also 52 at the top of the order from Vikramjit Singh with his 52 runs coming at a strike rate of 77.  The Netherlands were bowled out for 205 with 9 overs left in the innings.

New Zealand 1/20

Netherlands 8/1

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides have met four times in ODI’s with New Zealand winning all 4 and they played a 3 match series in New Zealand early in 2022 with New Zealand winning all 3 matches comfortably.

Suggested Bet:  Devon Conway to score a 50, YES, at 21/20

Conway was our pick as Top Batsman of the Tournament @ 16/1 and he certainly got us off to a strong start, also delivering on the Best Batsman pick in the first match.  He looks untroubled at the crease and I am happy to take anything above 1/1 that he scores a 50.

Suggested Bet:  Top Netherlands Bowler, Bas de Leede at 26/10.

He picked up 4 wickets against Pakistan and although I hadn’t seen much of him before, he does look the type of bowler who is going to get amongst the wickets on a regular basis.
