WORLD SPORTS BETTING GOLF PREVIEWS

For this week’s golf betting we are off to Vegas for the Shriner Children’s Open which takes place at TPC Summerlin Course from Thursday to Sunday this week.

THE COURSE

TPC Summerlin plays to a par 71 and the layout offers plenty of birdie opportunities with its wide fairways and accessible greens.  Although the fairways are wide, really wild tee shots can be punished, but it is largely target practise for these pros and the winner will have to have a hot putter.

You have to go back to 2017 for a winning score of less than -21 and that result is certainly an anomaly with Patrick Cantlay winning at -9, but there were unusually heavy winds that week.

PAST WINNERS

2022 – Tom Kim -24

2021 – Sungjae Im -24

2020 – Martin Laird -23 (playoff)

2019 – Kevin Na -23 (playoff)

2018 – Bryson DeChambeau -21

2017 – Patrick Cantlay -9 (playoff)

2016 – Rod Pampling -20

2015 – Smylie Kaufman -16

MARKET LEADERS

Defending Champion, Tom Kim is the favourite at 12/1 with new kid on the block, Ludvig Aberg priced at 14/1 and you can get 22/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS:

Adam Hadwin each way at 40/1

Hadwin has had a lengthy break, but what attracts me to him is his course form and he has two Top 10’s and a Top 5 in his last 4 appearances here.  Hadwin is a man who has proven he can go low, something which will be a requirement this week and I am hoping he comes in fresh and ready to fire.

Seong-Hyeon Kim each way at 66/1

Bookmakers should be offering a Kim special this week as there are 4 golfers with the surname Kim in the line-up.  Two of them are highly fancied in Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim and Michael Kim is the rank outsider of the quartet at 80/1.  My pick Seong-Hyeon Kim was runner-up in his penultimate start, although he missed the cut last week and he was 4th here in his impressive debut in 2022.

Asian golfers have thrived at this venue in recent years and at a big price I am hoping S.H. Kim is the right Kim this week.

Matthew Nesmith each way at 80/1

Nesmith is not a player I have spoken about very often and in fact I think this is the first time I have mentioned him in a preview.  What caught the eye was his course form here with 4 consecutive Top 20’s including a Top 10 and then a runner-up finish last year.  Nesmith hasn’t been in great form, but a Top 25 finish last week suggests he may be ready to go close at a course that he clearly loves.

Ben Griffin each way at 60/1

There may be 4 Kim’s in the field, but the Griffin’s are giving them a run for their money with both Lanto and Ben taking part so make sure you back the right one.

Ben Griffin was runner-up last week and I am hoping that he comes to terms with the course having finished a disappointing 60th on debut last year.  He is the only one of my selections not to have any decent course form, but I am hoping he carries on the momentum he built up last week.
