AUSTRALIA

Australia’s opening match was against India and they lost by 6 wickets.

They took on South Africa in Lucknow on Thursday the 12th of October winning the toss and elected to field first. South Africa started off strong with Australia only picking up their first wicket after 108 runs were scored, through the bowling of Glen Maxwell. South Africa scored 311/7 with Maxwell top bowler, picking up 2 wickets in his 10 overs, with just 34 runs against him.

Australia battled to score in the early overs, losing the wickets of Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, and Steve Smith with only 50 runs on the board, leaving the middle order with a lot of work to do. They could not recover and were bowled out for 177 in 40.5 overs with South Africa winning by 134 runs. The top batting performance was by Marnus Labuschagne, who scored 46 runs, somewhat stabilising the Australian innings for a short period.

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka lost their opening game against South Africa by 102 runs.

They then went head-to-head with Pakistan on the 10th of October in Hyderabad, with Sri Lanka winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

Sri Lanka got into some early trouble with their first wicket of Kusal Perera falling after just 5 runs, for a duck. They were able to stabilise and kick on putting up a total of 344/9. There were two centuries, one from Kusal Mendis, who scored 122 runs off 77 balls, with a strike rate of 158%, and the other from Sadeera Samarawickrama who picked up 108 runs off 89 balls.

Sri Lanka hit the field with a lot of runs to play with and they placed pressure on Pakistan early with Dilshan Madushanka taking 2 Pakistani wickets, including the wicket of Babar Azam before the Pakistan side had put 40 runs on the board. The Sri Lankan bowling attack then struggled for the rest of the game only picking up 2 more wickets with Pakistan winning the match by 6 wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Top Sri Lankan bowler was Madushanka who picked up his 2 wickets for 60 runs in 9.2 overs.

Sri Lanka and Australia met 5 times last year in Sri Lanka, with Sri Lanka winning 3 of the matches, and Australia winning 2.

Betting

Australia 2/7

Sri Lanka 28/10

Suggested Bet: To score 50(+) – Kusal Mendis at (22/10)

Kusal Mendis had a brilliant innings in his previous match, and I think that Sri Lanka will look to build the innings around him.

Suggested Bet: Top Australian Bowler – Pat Cummins at (5/2)

Pat Cummins is bowling well although wickets have eluded him and he has only taken 1 wicket in 2 matches so far. It is a matter of time before he rips through a team and I am hoping it is against Sri Lanka.
