New Zealand

New Zealand have played three games, securing three wins and accumulating six points. This places them second on the table, behind India, who also have six points.

In their most recent game against Bangladesh, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first.

They began in the best possible manner by taking a wicket on the very first ball of the innings. New Zealand maintained pressure on the Bangladesh batsmen, restricting the run rate throughout the innings. As a result, Bangladesh managed to score a total of 245 runs while New Zealand took nine wickets, with Ferguson accounting for three of those nine wickets.

Despite losing an early wicket in the third over, New Zealand were always in control of the chase. They comfortably chased down the 245 runs set by Bangladesh in the 43rd over, losing only two wickets in the process. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer with 89 runs, followed by Kane Williamson, who scored 78 runs before being retired due to a fractured thumb.

AFGHANISTAN

Afghanistan has also played three games in their campaign. However, they have only managed to secure one win in those three games, leaving them with only two points and in sixth place on the table.

In their most recent clash against England, they lost the toss and were sent in to bat.

Afghanistan made a strong start with their opening batsmen building a partnership of 114 runs before losing the first wicket. They maintained the early momentum gained and reached a total of 284 runs before losing their tenth wicket in the last over. Gurbaz and Khil were major contributors to this score, both managing to secure half-centuries.

Similarly, Afghanistan performed well with the ball, taking two wickets in the first seven overs. They kept the pressure on the defending champions, eventually bowling out the English side in the 41st over for a total of 215 runs. Both Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman contributed with three wickets each, leading Afghanistan to their first win of the 2023 World Cup.

New Zealand 1/4

Afghanistan 3/1

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The last time these two teams faced each other was in the 2019 World Cup when New Zealand secured a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Afghanistan.

Suggested Bet:  Afghanistan to be over 22.5 runs at the first dismissal at 17/20

After their openers’ performance against New Zealand, scoring 114 runs this line looks tempting as they are the sort of team to build an innings rather than explode from ball 1.

Suggested Bet: Rachin Ravindra to top the batting at 4/1

Despite not having the best performance in his most recent match against Bangladesh, Ravindra has demonstrated excellent form in the lead-up to the World Cup and in the first two games of the tournament. I am backing him to get back amongst the runs.
