SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa opened their campaign with a convincing 102 run victory over Sri Lanka.

They were then underdogs against Australia and it was the Australians who won the toss and decided to field first.  The wicket looked a little bit tricky, but South Africa got off to a strong start putting on 108 for the first wicket before Temba Bavuma went for 35 at a strike rate of 63.  Quinton de Kock held the innings together with a 109 at a strike rate of over 100.  There was also a well-played 56 runs from Aiden Markram at a strike rate of 127.  The Proteas reached 311 for 7 in their 50 overs.

They had Australia in trouble from the beginning as they kept the run rate down and the pressure led to wickets falling and the Australians were at one stage 70 for 6 in the 18th over.  They recovered slightly but were ultimately bowled out for 177 with all of the South Africans getting amongst the wickets.  Lungi Ngidi only picked up 1 wicket, but his 1 for 18 off 8 overs was a superb spell and those who backed Kagiso Rabada in the Top Bowler Market would have collected thanks to his 3 for 33 off 8 overs.

NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands opened their campaign against Pakistan going down by 81 runs.

They then faced New Zealand and won the toss and elected to field first.  New Zealand got off to a strong start putting on 67 runs for the first wicket and they built the innings nicely to finish on 322 for 7. Dutt, Van Meerkeren and Van der Merwe picked up two wickets apiece with Van der Merwe the pick with his economy rate of 6.22 runs an over.  The top 7 of the Netherlands all got into double figures, but only Colin Ackermann managed to kick on to score 69 off 73 balls as the Netherlands fell further and further behind on the run rate.  They finished on 223 all out in the 47th over to lose by 99 runs.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides have played 7 ODI’s with South Africa winning 6 and 1 no result.  They last met in South Africa in a 2 match series in 2023 with South Africa winning 2-0.

South Africa 1/25

Netherlands 9/1

Fortunately in matches like this we don’t have to get involved in the match result as there are plenty of other markets which catch the eye.

Suggested Bet:  Top Netherlands Batsman, Colin Ackermann at 28/10

Ackermann has been the pick of the Netherlands batsmen for me and he is one of the more experienced players in the side.  I am looking for him to hold his form and hopefully top score for his team.

Suggested Bet:  South Africa Top Bowler, Lungi Ngidi at 18/10

The bookmakers are on to this one which is why he is favourite in the market, but Ngidi bowled superbly against Australia and if he can reproduce that kind of form, the Netherlands batsmen are going to be all at sea.

Suggested Bet:  Quinton de Kock over 35.5 runs at 17/20

De Kock is looking in great form and I can see him treating the bowling with respect at first before cutting loose and he can hopefully make short work of this runs target.
