ENGLAND
England the defending champions have only won one of their opening three games. This places them in 5th position on the table with two points.
In their most recent game against Afghanistan, England won the toss and chose to bowl first. The England bowlers battled to apply early pressure on the Afghanistan batsmen, allowing them to score 114 runs before taking the first wicket. They struggled to wrestle control away from their opponents throughout the innings, which allowed Afghanistan’s middle-order batsmen to amass runs, resulting in a total of 284 runs before England bowled them out in the last over. Adil Rashid was impressive taking three wickets in the ten overs he bowled.
England didn’t start well, losing two wickets within the first seven overs. Harry Brook, played a decent innings, scoring a half-century and contributing a total of 66 runs to the chase. Unfortunately, the rest of the batting order couldn’t deliver the required support and they were bowled out in the 41st over, leading to their second loss in the campaign.
SOUTH AFRICA
The Proteas opened their World Cup campaign with two wins but suffered their first loss in their most recent game. This places them on four points and in third position on the table.
In their most recent match against the Netherlands, they won the toss and chose to bowl first. South Africa started well by taking three wickets in the first ten overs. However, they allowed the Dutch batsmen to build momentum and score runs from their middle-order players, resulting in a total of 245 runs in a reduced 43 overs due to bad weather. Ngidi, Rabada, and Jansen each got two wickets, with no one else taking more than one and overall it was a disappointing performance with the ball allowing the Netherlands 50-60 runs more than they should have.
Similarly to the Netherlands, the Proteas lost three wickets in the first ten overs, putting them under early pressure. Miller played well, coming within seven runs of his half-century, but it wasn’t enough and wickets fell every time a partnership got going. South Africa were bowled out in the last over, managing only 207 runs for a 38 run defeat.
This historic win for the Dutch side marked the Proteas’ first loss of the tournament.

England 15/20
South Africa 11/10
HEAD-TO-HEAD
These two sides met earlier this year in a three-game series in South Africa, with the Proteas winning the series 2-1.
Suggested Bet: England to be under 33.5 runs at the first dismissal at 17/20
England’s openers will come out firing but the Proteas attack will be pumped and I am betting on an early wicket.
Suggested Bet: South Africa to win at 11/10
The Proteas can be frustrating to follow and the loss to the Netherlands make this game much more crucial. Overall they have been playing better than an England team low on confidence and I am backing them to get back on track with a win.
