The 9th stage of the Tour de France starts in Aigle and ends almost 193 kilometres later in Châtel Les Portes du Soleil.
STAGE 8 RECAP
Stage 8 was largely expected to be a breakaway, but a big crash in the peloton just when the break was forming saw the field slow down and a very small break, which was already up the road, was allowed to go free. It was never given much freedom though and the teams of Jumbo-Visma and BikeExchange worked to bring it back for a sprint finish.
The final climb did not see the attacks that one might have expected and in the end it was a fairly large bunch that went to the line with Wout Van Aert showing his class and dominance once again with a victory from Michael Matthews.
JERSEY UPDATE
Tadej Pogacar showed his versatility once again with a 3rd place finish to steal 4 seconds and he now leads Vingegaard by 39 seconds and is a 4/10 favourite to win the Tour. Vingegaard is 26/10 and Primoz Roglic and Geraint Thomas are both at 25/1.

STAGE 9 ROUTE AND PREDICTIONS
The stage gets off to a flat start before the riders hit a Cat 4 climb after around 32 kilometres. Getting into breakaways hasn’t proved very successful in this Tour so far, but I expect we will see a massive battle early on and the break may well go on this Cat 4 climb.
There is a Green Jersey sprint after 56.5 kilometres, but it is in the second-half of the stage when the climbing really begins with a Cat 2 and a Cat 1 climb followed by another Cat 1 which is 15.4 kilometres 6.1% and peaks just 9 kilometres from the finish.
This Tour de France is proving tough to predict as far as whether or not the break will succeed, but today I do expect a bigger break up the road and I think that it is a strong chance.
One man I expect to see there is Kamna who looked so strong on Friday and I think that today he finishes the job. This bet comes with the insurance that should he run 2nd I can get my stake back in free bets.
