Australia go into this opening match of their home World Cup as firm favourites although their warm-up form has been mixed with a 6 run loss to India and a no result against England in a weather interrupted match that meant that England won the 3 match series 2-0.

New Zealand haven’t had the best of preparations coming into this World Cup and their warm-up match against India on Thursday was abandoned without a ball been bowled.  They previously lost a low scoring encounter to South Africa, a few days earlier went down by 5 wickets to Pakistan.

Australia and New Zealand have met 15 times in this format with Australia winning 10 and New Zealand 4 while 1 match was tied.  They have only met 3 times on Australian soil with Australia winning all 3 of those games.
