Sri Lanka v England ICC T20 World Cup Betting Preview
November 4, 2022

Sri Lanka and England play in their final Super 12 Group 1 Match in the T20 World Cup in Sydney on Saturday and we take a look at this crucial encounter from a betting angle.

THE LOG

England go into the final round of fixtures 2nd on the log, tying points with leaders, New Zealand and also with 3rd place, Australia, but stuck in between them as far as net run rate goes.  New Zealand are playing Ireland at the time of writing while Australia play Afghanistan just afterwards so England will know exactly what they need to do to make the last 4, but at this stage I am going to assume that, at the very least, victory is required and should Australia hammer Afghanistan possibly also an improved in the net run rate.

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka opened their Super 12 campaign with a comfortable 9 wicket win over Ireland before going down by 7 wickets to Australia.  New Zealand were too strong for them winning by 65 runs, but Sri Lanka chased down 145 to win against Afghanistan getting up with 6 wickets and 9 balls to spare.  Afghanistan had won the toss and decided to bat eventually ending on 144 for 8 with Hasaranga getting 3 for 13 off his 4 overs.  Sri Lanka always looked in control of the chase and an unbeaten 66 off 42 balls from De Silva saw them home.

ENGLAND

England opened their campaign with a 5 wickets victory over Afghanistan, but they then were stunned by Ireland, losing by 5 runs in a rain shortened match.  The next game against Australia was abandoned without a ball been bowled.

Then the English beat high flyers New Zealand in a game they simply had to win.  Having won the toss and chosen to bat they scored a 179 for 6 in their 20 overs with Jos Buttler scoring 73 off 47 balls and Alex Hales 52 off 40.  They then restricted New Zealand to a 159 for 6 in their 20 overs to win by 20 runs and Sam Curran’s excellent World Cup continued with 2 for 26 off 4 while Chris Woakes got 2 for 33 off his 4 overs.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides have met 13 times in the T20 format with England winning 9 and Sri Lanka 4.

Sri Lanka 7/2

England 2/9

Suggested Bet:  England Total Sixes over 6.5 at 10/11

I foresee a situation when England have to win this game and potentially improve their run rate and I think they are going to be aggressive from ball one.

Suggested Bet:  England Top Bowler, Sam Curran at 5/2

Curran has the ball on a string at the moment and has been heavily amongst the wickets I am backing that trend to continue against the Sri Lankans
