NETHERLANDS V USA

NETHERLANDS

Netherlands topped their group coming through unbeaten having opened up with a 2-0 win over Senegal which was followed by a 1-1 draw with Ecuador.  Their final game was against Qatar where they started 1/5 favourites and delivered with a 2-0 victory.

USA

The USA opened their campaign with a couple of draws, 1-1 against Wales and a goalless draw against England and they then did the business against Iran, winning 1-0 at odds of 19/20 to book their spot in the last 16.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides last met in a friendly International back in 2015 with the USA winning 4-3 and they have never met in a World Cup match.

Netherlands 1/1

Draw 23/10

USA 16/5

Suggested Bet:  Netherlands win at 1/1

I am going to keep this fairly simple as I have been impressed with what I have seen from the Netherlands and I think they have the attack to get through this USA defence whereas by contrast I am not sure the USA are going to trouble the Netherlands much up front.

Other markets of interest given the trend in this World Cup would be the 11/10 Second-Half Highest Scoring and also the Correct Score at Half-Time 0-0 at 12/10.

ARGENTINA v AUSTRALIA

ARGENTINA

Argentina recovered from an early scare against Saudi Arabia, where they lost a 1 goal lead to lose 2-1, to come storming through their group with a 2-0 win over Mexico and another 2-0 win over Poland last time out and they are now firmly back on track for a deep run into the Tournament and possibly a win.

AUSTRALIA

Australia had it all to do to qualify after an opening 4-1 defeat to France, but they came back with 1-0 victories over Tunisia and Denmark.  In the game against Denmark they started 13/2 underdogs so it was a massive result for the Aussies.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

These sides haven’t met since 2007 when Argentina won a friendly International 1-0 and they did meet in the World Cup in 1994 in the qualification group with Argentina winning one and the other game drawn.

Argentina 1/5

Draw 6/1

Australia 16/1

Suggested Bet:  Under 2.5 goals at 11/10

Four goals conceded against France aside, I have been very impressed by Australia’s defence and I think they are going to set out the intention of frustrating Argentina.  The under 2.5 goals looks a big runner.
