FA Cup Round 4 Betting Preview
January 26, 2023

We are down to the final 32 teams in the FA Cup and we take a look at 4 of the matches taking place over the weekend and suggest a bet in each game.

Let’s start with a look at the Outright Betting in the FA Cup where we have Manchester City trading as 5/2 favourites ahead of their neighbours, Manchester United who are 9/2.  Tottenham and Liverpool are 7/1, you can get 10/1 Arsenal and 16/1 and better the balance.

FRIDAY

Manchester City v Arsenal – Click here to bet

Manchester City are currently 2nd in the English Premier League, 5 points behind Arsenal in 1st with Arsenal having played a game less.  City looked to have a stern test in their 3rd Round FA Cup match when they hosted Chelsea, but had few problems sweeping them aside 4-0.

Arsenal were on the road to Oxford United and duly delivered on 1/8 odds with a 3-0 victory.

Manchester City did the double over Arsenal in the League last season and their last FA Cup meeting saw the Gunners win 2-0.  Manchester City have been a bit inconsistent this season, but their last two home games have been a 4-2 win over Tottenham and a 3-0 win over Wolves.

I have a feeling that of the two sides, City will be more focused on the FA Cup as Arsenal will surely just be thinking of the League Title, for that reason I am backing City to progress to Round 4 with a victory.

Suggested Bet:  Manchester City Win at 5/6

SATURDAY

Manchester United v Reading FC – Click here to bet

Manchester United love a deep FA Cup run and they had few problems seeing off fellow Premier League side, Everton 3-1 at home in the third round.  They are also travelling reasonably well in the League sitting 4th although they did just lose their last game, 3-2 away at Arsenal.

Reading are currently sitting 14th on the Championship and without a win in their last 5 games.  They made it through to the 4th round thanks to a 2-0 home victory over Watford.

These sides met in the 3rd Round of the 2018/19 FA Cup with Manchester United winning 2-0 at home.

Manchester United will be eyeing out a deep Cup run and they play against a Reading side that doesn’t look in the greatest of form.  I am going for United by more than a goal.

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Manchester United -1.5 at 12/10

SUNDAY

Brighton v Liverpool – Click here to bet

Brighton are currently 6th in the English Premier League, 3 positions and 2 points ahead of Liverpool, the team that they beat 3-0 in the league back in January.  Brighton booked their spot in the 4th round of the FA Cup thanks to a comfortable 5-1 win at Middlesbrough in Round 3.

Liverpool drew 2-2 to at home to Wolves in their 3rd Round match and required a replay where they won 1-0 to progress.

This looks a tough game to call as Liverpool are currently shading favouritism at 15/10.  I haven’t been convinced with them this season though and I think that Brighton can use the confidence of the League victory to spur them on to another win.

Suggested Bet:  Brighton win at 7/4

MONDAY

Derby County v West Ham – Click here to bet

Derby County currently sit 4th in League 1 and they have won their last 5 matches in a row.  Looking at their FA Cup form they required a replay to beat Torquay in the 1st Round and they then saw off Newport 2-1 on the road in Round 2.  Their 3rd Round clash was against Championship side, Barnsley and they won 3-0 at home having been priced as 9/10 favourites.

West Ham are currently sitting 16th in the English Premier League and they won their last game 2-0 at home to Everton.  They entered the FA Cup in the 3rd Round when they beat Brentford 1-0 on the road.

This could be a tough game for the Hammers, but I am taking them to edge a win as they go on much needed Cup run.

Suggested Bet:  Handicap, Derby +1 goal, the draw at 26/10
